Savvy Scoop #2: A Personal Stylist’s Picks
Martina Čilić chose a mountain of pieces for you guys.
Martina Čilić is our first Savvy Scoop guest editor. She’s an art director at Boss and a personal stylist, and today she chose some pieces you requested on Instagram a week ago. I hope you’ll enjoy her picks, and make sure to cheer her on in the comments. You can follow her on Instagram here and here.
Hello, hello! Great to be guesting here, and thanks for having me, Nives. Based on your requests, dear Stitch readers, here are your scoops. I had tons of fun which got me excited, so I hope I've found some good pieces and helped you. It felt like fake shopping, where you keep the thrill and save the money, though I did scoop one item. Check it out and let us know your thoughts, or text me at @medits_foryou.
Fun going-out tops
I hear you, of course - who wants to get into the same boring basics when you go out or want to have some fun? Tops and jeans are very much back, and I’m here for it again. Gimaguas (I can’t remember when or where I picked up on this brand, I think it was through some Danish magazines before Covid) does cool, hot stuff, and my nostalgic self could buy all of it. Paloma Wool is a very cool brand that produces everything in Spain or Portugal. I have a few things from them and love their work. If you’re into the hot fash stuff, go Coperni, as the likes of Dua Lipa and other fashion girlies. Also, the mesh is really cool and quite cheap. The level of nakedness is fully up to you.
The work tote
A big spacious bag that can fit a laptop and all you need in a day (read: your whole life) is one of the items I get asked about all the time by clients and friends. I’m also the one carrying a “ridiculously capacious” bag, so I know a thing or two about the topic. The one I’m carrying my life in ATM is actually a quite cheap non-branded tote that I got a lot of inquiries about. It’s an LL Bean boat tote made in Maine. You’ve seen it on many celebrities, including Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, and I got mine as a gift. Perks of having international friends.
My go-to suggestion to everyone I love is this Stella McCartney tote. I’d buy it myself but I’ve got something similar from an old Boss collection. Black is fine, but cognac or grey are the real deal, and the logo is not that noticeable, especially if you want to wear it on the side where it’s not visible.
Longchamp’s Le Pliage is another go-to bag that lasts for a decade literally (trust me, I’ve tested it), and in that sense, I find it quite sustainable. I got it for travel, and now I wear it to the beach. It is a very common work bag in certain countries or cities such as London but not that popular in Croatia or other EU parts, so there is your chance.
Also, summer is coming. Think Jane Birkin, and don’t get too serious about it. The look should not be just about a branded bag, especially if your other pieces are a statement and well-tailored.
Cute things, fun stuff
We need this, too. Here are some cute things I’ve spotted recently that you don’t need (but you do).
That’s it, dear readers. I hope I was helpful. Let me know if it was useful and, of course, who got what.
